Everybody wants beautiful skin and hair -- even your dog. Just like humans, the condition of a dog's skin and coat is a good indication of her overall health. A healthy coat is lustrous, and healthy skin is supple. If you’ve noticed your pup’s fur has become dull or she is having some minor skin issues such as dryness, her diet may be lacking in protein or essential fatty acids.
Adding our Skin & Coat Functional Food Topper to her daily meal is an easy and affordable way to ensure she is getting the nutrients she needs to maintain skin and coat health.
Fish oils (particularly Omega 3) are a powerhouse when it comes to keeping your dog’s coat looking good, and salmon is loaded with them. Salmon also is a good source of protein, biotin and silica. Silica is a key ingredient in the creation of collagen, one of the building blocks of skin, hair, and nails.
The oils present in coconut are highly beneficial for your dog’s skin and coat, too. Coconut’s anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce any yeast infections, hot spots, and dry, itchy skin. Like salmon, coconut contains the fatty acids needed to promote a soft, healthy coat.
The fats found in both salmon and coconut enable the body - human and canine - to absorb vitamins A, D, and E. These vitamins, as well as biotin, contribute to your bestie’s skin and coat health.
Don't forget to supply your doggo with plenty of fresh water, as proper hydration will add moisture to the skin. Also, don’t bathe your dog too often, and when you do, use a dog-appropriate shampoo like our Botanical Bath Bar that will gently cleanse while conditioning the skin and coat. Regular brushing will stimulate your dog’s skin and hair follicles, which increases the production of oils necessary to protect the skin and keep the coat shiny.
If you notice any redness, crusting, intense scratching or hair loss, your dog could be suffering from something more serious than just a little dry skin and you should contact your vet.
